A new podcast from Beyond the CV is coming soon. And we'd love you to be part of it.

Behind every uniform is a person. And alongside many of those people are partners, spouses and families whose own stories often go unheard.

The careers interrupted. The qualifications put on hold. The friendships made and left behind. The interviews that never happened because someone spotted a military connection on a CV. But also the achievements, the determination, the adaptability, the humour and the incredible things people have accomplished alongside military life.

At Beyond the CV, we believe those stories deserve to be heard. And that's why we're launching Beyond the Uniform, a brand-new podcast.

Beyond The Uniform - A podcast from Beyond The CV

Why Beyond the Uniform?

Beyond the CV was founded by two military spouses, Joanne Bowmer and Amy Lovely, following an experience that neither of us could simply ignore.

When Joanne advertised one remote position within her legal business, 121 military spouses and partners applied in just 24 hours. 121 people.

Some had impressive qualifications. Some had careers interrupted by postings, deployments and family responsibilities. Others were simply looking for someone to give them an opportunity.

What united them wasn't a lack of ambition or ability. It was the difficulty of finding employment that could work alongside military life.

That experience led to the creation of Beyond the CV, an initiative dedicated to challenging recruitment barriers, recognising transferable skills and encouraging employers to look beyond traditional career histories.

But we soon realised something.

There are thousands of stories out there, and we want to hear them.

Conversations That Go Beyond a CV

Beyond the Uniform won't be about polished career histories or perfectly rehearsed answers.

We want genuine conversations about what life really looks like.

The funny moments. The difficult decisions. The unexpected opportunities. The times things went completely wrong and the moments when everything finally fell into place.

We'll be talking about employment, career changes, education, family life, relocation, deployments, confidence, entrepreneurship and everything in between. We'll also be speaking with employers, organisations and people who are helping to create opportunities and challenge outdated assumptions.

Because sometimes the most valuable experience someone brings to a workplace is the experience that never appears on their CV.

We're Looking for Guests!

Are you a military spouse or partner with a story to tell? Perhaps you've built a successful business around military life. Maybe you've struggled to find employment after repeated relocations. You might have returned to education, changed careers completely, found an employer who genuinely understands military life or still be trying to work out what comes next.

We want to hear from you.

You don't need a huge social media following, an impressive job title or a particularly extraordinary story. And you certainly don't need any podcast experience. You just need to be willing to have a conversation.

We're interested in the everyday experiences just as much as the extraordinary achievements.

We'd also love to hear from employers and organisations who are doing something positive to improve employment opportunities for the Armed Forces community.

Real People. Real Potential. Real Impact.

Beyond the Uniform is another way for us to continue the work we started with Beyond the CV. We want to create a space where experiences are shared, assumptions are challenged and people realise they're not alone in the difficulties they face.

And perhaps, somewhere along the way, an employer listening will think differently about the next military spouse's CV that lands on their desk.

Or someone struggling to find their place professionally will hear a story that gives them the confidence to try again.

If even one conversation helps make that happen, it will be worth having.
